We are the bridge between the mundane and the Secret World. Knightsbridge is proud to offer a more in-depth look at a few of the individuals who make our office more than simply a place to work. For many, Knightsbridge is a second home. Bridge Builders is an ongoing series in which we shall give the public an opportunity to get to know some of our Consultants a little better.
Knightsbridge Consulting is proud of the work we do, but even more proud of the individuals who take on the strange and often thankless cases that come our way. We are very happy to share a more informal and up close look at some of Knightsbridge’s finest. Please meet the first of our featured Knighstbridge Consultants, Matthew Drake.
Matthew came to Knightsbridge earlier this year and has been a great asset to us from day one. We sat down with him and asked a few questions, but before we get to that, here's what his coworkers think of him as well.
"That he always tries is best by his friends and the people he cares about is never in doubt. Does he make errors? Sure. But his heart is in the right place and that counts for a hell of a lot in my book!"--Loryne Atwin, Consultant on her friend and teammate.
"Most of us in the world have a hard time trusting others, myself included. Matthew Drake is someone that I know I can count on without hesitation to always do what he believes is in the best interest of everyone here." --Mayahuel Bailey, Senior Consultant
Matthew is quiet and can seem a little shy when you first meet him. As with many of our employees, he came to us after dealing with a fair share of turmoil in the Secret World and his own personal life. He is always helpful and willing to lend a hand to anyone around the office who needs it. Still learning, Matthew Drake has managed to show the promise of someone who will eventually be a great team leader. He is humble and willing to learn from his mistakes. Most important, he is willing to acknowledge his part when something goes wrong and work to find a solution.
Many of the cases we investigate can be very stressful and call for split-second decisions that can often have irrevocable consequences. Matthew understands that and takes his responsibility to do the right thing very seriously.
WHAT IS YOUR NAME AND WHAT SORTS OF DUTIES DO YOU HAVE IN THE KNIGHTSBRIDGE ORGANIZATION?
My name is Matthew Anthony Drake. I’m a Fixer of sorts. I do all sorts of work, from paranormal investigation through Occult Research, but I spend most of my time on the field helping those that need help, finding missing objects and sometimes even people. I try to minimize violence in KBC cases (and in general) but that doesn’t mean I’m not prepared for a fight if it's unavoidable.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO KNIGHTSBRIDGE?
I was born in Budapest, Hungary, I’m technically half Irish and half Hungarian, but I was raised in Oregon since the age of 10. Knightsbridge always appealed to me, as a place where I can do some good, use my “gifts” to help people, instead of being just another footsoldier. That's not saying I’m not one of those either, but joining KBC brought back a bit of the sense of normalcy in my life.
YOU’VE PROBABLY SEEN LOTS OF STRANGE THINGS, SO WHAT’S ONE OF THE STRANGEST CASES YOU’VE WORKED ON?
Well, I’d have to say the six feet tall Demon Chickens were really unexpected. But that wasn’t really a case. My actual cases so far have been more or less tame. My very first case comes to mind, when I met an Oracle who had no idea he was one. I had never met or even heard of real Oracles until that point.
IS THERE A PLACE THAT YOU HAVE NOT SEEN BUT WOULD LIKE TO VISIT?
Agartha makes traveling pretty easy, but I would really like to visit Iceland, I think.
WHAT SORTS OF INTERESTS DO YOU HAVE OUTSIDE OF WORK? DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL TALENTS?
Most of my hobbies have some connection to my work, such as studying grimoires, or experimenting with specialised ammunition. When I want to de-stress though, I like cooking, light reading, sometimes even watching movies/shows/animated works. At times, I play video games if I really have a downtime. My main hobby, since I was in high school myself--and later running the club when I was teaching high school--is Chess, though I’m quite rusty.
IS THERE A SONG THAT IS A FAVORITE OR YOU THINK SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU?
It's hard to pick just one because I like so many different ones, but I do like this song a lot. It is pretty much my outlook on life.
HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE JOINING KNIGHTSBRIDGE?
Definitely for the better. I get to help people on a case by case basis, not just the so called “big picture” and I got to know amazing people among my colleagues here!
